I first purchased Before the Time Comes on Audible and listened to it while traveling to visit my mother. My mother's memory was failing and my sister (her caregiver) left to visit her own daughter for two weeks and I was filling in. Having listened to just some of this book before I got there made such a difference - it cut through a lot of confusion I had, coached me on certain things (don't ever use the word "facility" in any conversation) and empowered me to know what to do, how to do it, and when. Above all else it helped me be there for my Mom in the way she needed me to be there for her. Listening to this book wasn't enough. I wanted to also thumb through a physical copy, so I purchased the paperback version too! This book helped us (our "team" or mom's 3 children) transition her into Assisted Living care which has been, except for a few bumps, a positive experience, and one that I credit this book for. The journey for us in caring for mom is ongoing and I will continue to refer to this book again and again. The author breaks it all down, providing wisdom and guidance every step of the way, along with checklists that including everything, from having the senior conversation to financial and legal paperwork. No matter what stage you are in with your loved one(s), this book will prove tremendously useful. Your entire family and especially your loved one - who is the heart and center of it all - will benefit greatly from the information you will learn in these pages. I cannot recommend this book enough. When you follow the information, you are truly doing God’s work. Many thanks to the author for sharing her experiences and leaving a legacy to help seniors and their families everywhere.
